About the Author
Wayne A. Secord, Ph.D., was recently appointed by the University of Central Florida as the College of Health and Public Affairs Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Communicative Disorders. He is also currently the Director of the National Center for Speech-Language-Pathology in Schools (NCSLPs) in Cincinnati, OH. The NCSLPs is a joint project of the University of Cincinnati (UC) and Miami University (MU). It is supported by a Project of National Significance Grant from the US Department of Education. Dr. Secord served as the Coordinator of School Speech-Language Pathology at The Ohio State University (OSU) from 1989 to 1995 and Chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Northern Arizona University (NAU) from 1995 to 2000. He is a Fellow of the Ohio Speech & Hearing Association (OSHA) and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), and has received awards for outstanding service or clinical achievement from UC, OSU, OSHA, the ASHA Foundation, and the Speech-Language-Hearing Association of Western New York (SHAWNY). He has authored or co-authored numerous articles, books, tests and intervention programs on assessment and treatment of speech and language disorders, and served as the Editor of Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools, a major ASHA journal, from 1992 to 1998. A former school speech-language pathologist, Dr. Secord is a frequent conference presenter and a nationally recognized expert on clinical and educational assessment and the delivery of school-based services for children with special needs.

Good information, but not worth the cost

I bought this book thinking it would have some "down to earth" recommendations and suggestions for correcting sounds. It ended up that there was too much narration of how sounds are produced, information that SLPs should already know.

Every day I sit in front of my computer. I'm surrounded by technology in every room of the house. I started to read Ted Andrew's Animal-Speak, but then stopped. I went outside and listened to the birds and insects and animals as I continued reading. I realized that, indeed, when we isolate ourselves from nature we are actually separating ourselves from reality.
So this is truly a book that changed me. I try to get outside every pleasant day. And when I do, I think of what I learned in this book. I'm more attuned to the animals and they seem to share their secrets with me. Secrets of peaceful living and secrets of self-empowerment. Secrets of spirituality and secrets of magic!
And the great thing is that with the guidance in this book I'm never limited. As you'll discover, there is animal after animal in this book that you can learn about and to which you can attune. Perhaps a lizard one day and a cat the next. Or perhaps you might find the power of the loon (who helps with lucid dreaming) to be just what you need.
One exercise I've found very useful is the technique used to call your spirit animal. You mediate on the animal and do simple visualizations, imagining it standing before you or drawing close to you. Eventually, you visualize it merging into you, feeling its energies as strong and vital. After spending just five minutes like this you will be more awake, aware and alert. Amazing!

About the Author

Ted Andrews (1952-2009) was an award-winning author and deeply respected teacher in the metaphysical and spiritual fields. Through his seminars, symposiums, workshops, and lectures, he was committed to making esoteric material comprehensible and practical for everyone.

Ted Andrew's many gifts included clairvoyancy, aura interpretation, past-life analysis, dreams interpretation, numerology, and Tarot. He wrote many books on these subjects, but is best known for his work with animal mysticism and for his bestselling Animal Speak: The Spiritual & Magical Powers of Creatures Great & Small. Certified in basic hypnosis and acupressure, Andrews was also involved in the study and use of herbs as an alternative path in health care, focusing strongly on esoteric forms of healing with sound, music, and voice. In addition to his interest in metaphysics, Ted was a trained pianist and often used the Celtic harp, bamboo flute, shaman rattles, Tibetan bells, Tibetan Singing Bowl, and quartz crystal bowls to create individual healing therapies and induce higher states of consciousness.

Ted Andrews is the author of The Healer's Manual; Animal-Speak, How to See & Read the Aura; Enchantment of the Faerie Realm; Crystal Balls & Crystal Bowls; How to Uncover Your Past Lives; How to Heal with Color; Sacred Sounds; Simplified Qabala Magic; and many other New Age titles. GREAT SERVICE! Great copy! Happy to GET THIS BOOK!

Ted Andrews inspects areas of thought I think about often. this is a book for some people, but maybe not everyone. If you ever have a notion, or feel a message coming from the way animals are, you may glean something from this book. Otherwise, if you are strictly hardcore concrete and geek, you may not find this appealing. It has it's own flavor.

I like to collect books by this author, Ted Andrews. Certainly I do not agree with everything that everyone says, but I feel he has some interesting perspectives and experience in thought I have contemplated upon.

If you can find this in the library, you will understand that it is of interest to the main stream. Consider that. It may or may not find a place at your own public library. We are each different and individual. I believe that Ted Andrews has something to say, but I don't necessarily wish to collect his entire set of publications, though I want to get a copy of his "Nature Speaks" book and cards. I'll go from there to see where it leans next.

Synchronicity and helpful insights from the animal world.

For several decades this has been my favorite reference book when I have seen or been visited by certain animals or birds. (Like two huge black turkey vultures perched by on my deck railing and then on my chimney!) It is well organized and gives good metaphysical and spiritual explanations for each contact with the animal world. The "messages" from the animals are derived from Native American lore. Some are quite detailed and really "hit home" with one's current life situation. The synchronicity is fun and validating.

I recently ordered a new copy because my original disappeared (probably loaned to someone) and I found that it is one book this animal lover cannot live without. I believe this was the classic original book about messages conveyed by animals, and while there are more recent such publications by other authors, I find this is by far the most detailed and comprehensive.

This is a must reference, especially for awakened folks living in rural areas, or even suburbs....critters are great messengers and can be very enlightening.
